Age: 11–14
Time required: 60 minutes

Captured! Students need to find the fastest way to cross varied terrain to safety. The only thing to help them is… maths?

Escape and Evade is a gamified lesson that challenges students to review and apply a variety of mathematical skills. Your entire class has been captured by smugglers. Working in teams and using the maps provided, students must 'break out' of their prison huts, collect the items they need to escape and reach the train station. They will tackle obstacles in the form of mathematical problem solving, alongside applying distance and speed calculations on their map's varied terrain to outsmart the guards and escape to safety.

The Escape and Evade resources link to the Maths curriculum, alongside supporting personal development. Complete with support and challenges questions and optional homework handouts, this lesson can be adapted to best suit your students and bring mathematics to life.
