Who’s the Hacker?

Maths

STEM

Age: 11–14

Time requirement: 45 minutes

Ask students to apply their mathmatical knowledge and problem-solving skills in taking on the role of Cyber Security experts to combat an attempt to hack the Army HQ.

In this session students must complete maths challenges reviewing a range of curriculum topics including geometry, ratios and proportion and prime number decomposition. Each completed challenge reveals a password for students to unlock the next 'Evidence File' and task, alongside additional information to help students ultimately identify the hacker from a list of suspects. All the passwords can be found in a hidden teacher slide (slide 3) in the Who's the Hacker Lesson presentation and lower and higher versions of the challenges are provided.

The Who's the Hacker? session reviews Maths curriculum topics applied to a real-world scenario. It aligns to the Gatsby Benchmarks for careers education.
