You’ve probably heard all about the specialist skills you can learn with us: parachuting in the Pyrenees. getting a fire going in the Gale, or tracking troops across tough terrain. But we're also keen on the skills a little closer to home. So here's our Army Rugby team's best advice for nailing a drop goal.

There are three key points to remember: Keep your eye on the ball, get the drop right, and follow through.

Step one

it starts with the catch. Make sure you receive the ball with your inside shoulder facing the outside post, catching with two hands and point downwards.

Step two

Step forward will be non-kicking foot, with the ball at waist height. Drop it around 30 centimetres in front of your left leg, always looking at the ball. If the point lands square on, the ball bounces straight up.

Step three

Focus on smacking your laces into the middle of the wall. if you right footed, your left arm should be shoulder high for balance. Strike the ball. Let your body rotate until it's facing the post. Follow through with your leg wherever you want the ball to go.

If you want to go far – hit it right on the bounce. If you want it to go high – hit it a second later.

And that’s how you nail a dropkick.

A job like no other
