Preparing for Army Assessment

Everyone joining the Army will need to attend an assessment to see if the Army is right for them.

Giving yourself the best chance of passing starts before you arrive, and is more than brushing up on your Army knowledge and working on your fitness.

Our top tips for success:

Sickle Cell Trait

  • We are now required to test candidates for Sickle Cell Trait.

  • You will be sent a family origin questionnaire to fill in after you apply. This will show whether you need a blood test to check whether you're safe to continue.

  • If needed, we will ask you to take a blood test before you attend the assessment centre.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT YOU SHOULD WAIT TO HEAR FROM US BEFORE STARTING FITNESS TRAINING IF YOU ARE AT RISK.

If you have Sickle Cell Trait it does not stop you from joining the Army, however, it does mean that you will need to build up your level of fitness to avoid being at risk of collapse from over exertion. You can find out more about Sickle Cell Trait, who is at risk and more about the testing in our information leaflet.
