A typical day in the British Army

What you can expect day-to-day in the Army

• 1Rise and shine

  On base, or off-camp if you fancy your own space and have a family. Kettle on, kit ready, time to get the day started.

• 2Morning workout

  Go for a run, hit the gym, or maybe a kickabout. Fitness and wellbeing in the Army is the same as anyone's morning workout, just with better company. 

• 3Breakfast

  A proper cooked breakfast in the mess hall, if you're on base. It's the perfect time to catch up with mates before your workday gets going. 

• 4Team briefing

  Ten minutes with your team to run through the day ahead: what's on, what's happening, and who's doing what.

• 5Daily job

  This is where your trade comes in. Put what you've learned to use and keep developing your skillset with hands-on practice.

• 6Tea break

  Choose between coffee, tea, or whatever you fancy. You'll find lots of soldiers taking a quick break with a cuppa throughout the day.

• 7Lunch

  A proper break with cooked food. Time to switch off before you're back at it. 

• 8Afternoon planning

  Time to mix it up. Get stuck into some admin, planning, and kit checks - or pick up where you left off with your morning work. 

• 9Personal development

  Your chance to do something for yourself. Choose from your choice of sport, gym, or work towards a free qualification on the Army's time.

• 10Evening downtime

  Kit away means a done day. This is time for yourself. Spend it with your mates, catch up on personal hobbies, or just put your feet up at the end of the day.

• 11Cheers for the weekend

  Come 5pm on Friday, it's yours. Just like everyone else, your weekend is open for whatever you like. If the Army's got something on, you'll know long before.
