Which apprenticeship are you currently doing / have you done?
I completed the Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Assistant apprenticeship.
Can you tell us about the skills, knowledge and experiences that you got by doing your apprenticeship?
My apprenticeship has really boosted my understanding of horse behaviour, especially how their environment and interactions with humans and other horses affect them. This knowledge is crucial for my job since we're around horses every day and need to ensure their welfare is always top-notch.
The apprenticeship, along with the khaki and kit ride courses, has also significantly improved my horse riding skills and how I handle them.
I believe that the apprenticeship team, along with the chain of command and leadership team in the squadron, have played a huge role in my career development.
What was the highlight of your apprenticeship experience?
My highlight so far on the apprenticeship has been learning how to deal with the more difficult horses. I think this could help me when I leave the Army as it is my aspiration to branch off from a family friend's safari company and start a horseback safari of my own later on in my life.
It's a fantastic opportunity and I would recommend it to anyone looking at it. The apprenticeship helps me to understand aspects of my job that I would not have learnt otherwise. The theory learnt on the apprenticeship is applied practically everyday in the yard.
As one of the biggest Apprenticeship providers in the UK you may be surprised to find out about the opportunities in the Army.
