Which apprenticeship are you currently doing / have you done?

I completed a Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Assistant Apprenticeship, and achieved a Distinction.

Can you tell us about the skills, knowledge and experiences that you got by doing your apprenticeship?

During my apprenticeship, I developed my knowledge of animals, including of the different types of feed we give our horses, and what they do, beddings and their types including the pros and cons, and horse anatomy. I have gained a better understanding of why horses behave the way they do which enables me to deal with them empathetically. Alongside Khaki and Kit Ride I have developed my riding ability and skill to handle difficult horses.

What was the highlight of your apprenticeship experience?

The highlight of my apprenticeship experience is probably the lessons we did on horse behaviour.

When I leave the Army, I would like to carry on riding horses as much as possible, and the knowledge and skills I’ve gained has given me the confidence to ride most horses and know how to care for them.

Doing an Apprenticeship in the Army is definitely worthwhile, as they help develop the theoretical and practical skills. My advice would be to engage with the instructors and material to learn as much as possible.
